What Is Actually Inside a Permanent Lighting Track
A plain look at the parts that make up permanent roofline lighting - the channel, the diodes, the connectors, and the controller - and what to ask about each before you buy.
A permanent lighting track has four parts: the channel, the LED diodes inside it, the connectors that join each run, and the controller the app talks to. Every meaningful difference between systems lives in one of those four. A quote is usually a single number for a whole roofline, which makes systems hard to tell apart until you know what is physically going up there.
The channel is the part you will see every day
The channel, or track, is the housing that gets fastened along the roofline. It holds the diodes and hides them from view. This is the part that determines whether the system disappears in daylight or reads as a strip of hardware bolted to your fascia, so it is worth looking at in person rather than in a rendering.

The diodes are the light itself
Inside the channel sits a run of individually addressable LED diodes. Addressable means each diode can be told to do something different from the one beside it, which is what makes patterns, chases, and multi-color displays possible rather than just one solid color at a time.
Two things matter here. Color range: Apollo's diodes cover 16 million-plus color options. And rated life: Apollo's LEDs are rated at 50,000-plus hours. The connectors are where systems fail
Every run of channel has to join to the next one, turn a corner, and eventually get back to a power source. Those junctions are the places where water gets in and where a display develops a dead section three years later.
There is no way to evaluate this from the street, which is why it is the right thing to ask about directly. Ask how the runs are joined, how the junctions are sealed, and what happens to the rest of the display if one section goes down. On a well-designed system a failed section does not take the roofline with it.
The controller and the app are the part you actually use
Power supply and controller usually live in a discreet spot near the panel or in the garage. The controller is what the app talks to.
